I once attended a Smithsonian lecture series entitled “Eight Great Illustrators.” One of the eight was Bob Peak. Mr. Peak is considered the father of the contemporary American movie poster. During the lecture a few illustration students in the audience continually asked, “How much do you make from your movie posters?” Mr. Peak visibly disturbed, but ever so cool, replied, “I get $10,000. per sketch.” After seconds of silence that seemed infinite, Mr. Peak continued with his visual presentation.
After the lecture, he autographed my copy of the Society of Illustrators Annual :)
